Dibrugarh is the most convenient starting point for an Anini & Dibang Valley Tour, thanks to its airport, railway station and excellent connectivity with eastern Arunachal Pradesh. Although the distance from Dibrugarh to Anini is around 450 km, it is very different from driving the same distance on a national highway.

After crossing the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Setu (Dhola-Sadiya Bridge) and entering Arunachal Pradesh, the roads gradually become narrower and more mountainous. The journey involves countless bends, changing road conditions and frequent scenic viewpoints where you'll naturally want to stop for photographs. While the distance may appear manageable on a map, the drive is considerably slower than most travellers expect.

Some travellers ask whether it is possible to drive directly from Dibrugarh to Anini in a single day. Technically, it is. However, doing so usually means spending 12 to 14 hours on the road, leaving very little time to enjoy the journey and arriving in Anini late in the evening.

At Zikation, we intentionally include an overnight stay in Roing because we believe the journey should be enjoyable, not exhausting. Mountain driving demands continuous concentration, and long hours behind the wheel can be tiring for both travellers and drivers. Breaking the journey allows everyone to travel safely, reach Anini feeling refreshed, and truly appreciate the spectacular landscapes along the way.

Having operated this route over multiple seasons, we've found that the overnight halt at Roing offers the best balance of safety, comfort and sightseeing. It also provides valuable flexibility in case of weather changes or temporary road delays, which are not uncommon in the mountains. Rather than being an unnecessary stop, Roing is an essential part of a well-planned Anini & Dibang Valley itinerary.

Many travellers look for a 4-day or 5-day Anini itinerary, hoping to combine the destination with a long weekend. While it is technically possible to reach Anini in fewer days, doing so would involve spending most of the trip on the road, leaving very little time to experience the beauty of Dibang Valley itself.

Two days are needed for the onward journey, two days to explore the region around Anini, and two days for the return drive. As the road climbs towards Mayodia Pass, the scenery changes dramatically. Travelling to Anini & Dibang Valley is very different from visiting a mainstream hill station. The region remains largely untouched by tourism, so expect simple but comfortable homestays, peaceful surroundings and warm local hospitality rather than luxury hotels or resort-style amenities. Staying with local hosts is an important part of the experience and offers an authentic glimpse into life in this remote Himalayan valley.

Mobile network coverage and internet connectivity are limited throughout much of the journey, allowing you to disconnect from everyday life and fully immerse yourself in the spectacular landscapes of Dibang Valley. Basic facilities such as electricity and running water are generally available, although occasional interruptions may occur due to weather or local infrastructure.

Chigu Camp is one of the highlights of the region and is included as a day visit in our itinerary. Overnight stays at the camp are currently not permitted, but you'll have plenty of time to explore the surrounding landscapes, enjoy the pristine wilderness and take photographs before returning to your homestay in Anini. This approach offers the perfect balance between experiencing the remote outdoors and enjoying a comfortable night's stay.

Anini & Dibang Valley can be visited for most of the year, with each season offering a different experience. The best time depends on whether you're looking for clear mountain views, pleasant weather, lush green landscapes or the chance to witness snowfall.

October to April is generally considered the best time to visit. The weather is pleasant, skies are usually clearer and the mountain views are at their best. During the winter months of December to February, Mayodia Pass often receives snowfall, making it one of the highlights of the journey for travellers hoping to experience snow in Arunachal Pradesh.

May to September transforms Dibang Valley into a lush green paradise with overflowing rivers, waterfalls and vibrant forests. While the scenery is spectacular, this is also the monsoon season, and heavy rainfall can occasionally lead to road closures or travel delays. If you're planning to visit during these months, we recommend keeping a buffer day in your itinerary.

An Inner Line Permit (ILP) is mandatory for all Indian citizens travelling to Anini and Dibang Valley in Arunachal Pradesh. The permit helps regulate entry into protected areas and must be obtained before your journey.

If you book your Anini & Dibang Valley Tour with us, we'll assist you with the ILP application process. In most cases, you'll only need to provide a valid government-issued photo ID and a recent passport-size or digital photograph.

Foreign nationals cannot travel using an ILP and must instead obtain a Protected Area Permit (PAP). The permit process, documentation requirements and associated costs are different for international travellers. PAP charges are not included in our standard tour package price. Dibrugarh is the starting point for our Anini & Dibang Valley Tour and is well connected to major Indian cities by regular flights. Travellers arriving by train can get down at New Tinsukia Railway Station, which is approximately 50 km from Dibrugarh Airport.

We recommend reaching Dibrugarh at least a few hours before the tour begins. If you're travelling from a distant city or have a connecting flight, arriving a day earlier is a good idea to avoid any last-minute delays caused by weather or airline schedules.

Similarly, we recommend booking your return flight or train after the tour officially concludes. Mountain roads and weather conditions can occasionally affect travel times, so it's always better to keep a comfortable buffer rather than booking a tight connection.
