Itinerary

Day 1: Ahmedabad – Little Rann of Kutch

Welcome to Gujarat. Today, we will pick you up from hotel / airport / railway station, and drive you to Little Rann of Kutch. Have lunch at the desert resort and get ready to explore the dry and salty desert. A shared vehicle will take you to the interiors of the desert, where you can spot Wild Ass (rare endangered species), flamingos (during the season), antelopes and a variety of birds and animals. Later in the day, you will also visit a salt farm to understand how salt is extracted from below the ground, to how it is processed. End the day by watching a beautiful sunset over the dry forest.

Day 2: Little Rann of Kutch – Dholavira

Today, we will leave the dry salty desert to visit one of the most historic sites of Gujarat. Dholavira was one of the prime cities during the Indus Valley Civilization, and became prominent during the Harappan Civilization. Today, Dholavira has ruins from the yesteryears lying amidst the dry desert on one side, and the massive Rann of Kutch on the other. After exploring the ruined sites, we will check-in to hotel.

Day 4: Bhuj – Lakhpat – Narayan Sarovar – Bhuj

Today, we will visit the western most tip of India. We will start our day by visiting Mata No Madh Temple. The ancient 1200 year old temple is dedicated to the kuldevi of Jadeja family, Maa Ashapara. The new temple is located on a hill top, and provides amazing views of the desert plains around. Later, we will go to the abandoned town of Lakhpat. The entire town of Lakhpat resides inside a fort that used to be next to River Sindhu. Before 1800s, Lakhpat used to be a major trade centre of rice. However, a devastating earthquake in early 1800s, made the people in the town abandon it and move to other places. The river also changed its coarse eventually! After visiting a historic town, we will proceed to visit Narayan Sarovar, which is the western most temple in India. Later drive back to Bhuj and relax.
