Planning a Trip to Bhutan
Bhutan is one of the few destinations where the journey is as rewarding as the destination itself. From dramatic mountain passes and ancient monasteries to peaceful valleys and vibrant cultural traditions, Bhutan offers experiences that are difficult to find elsewhere in the Himalayas.
Our Bhutan tour packages are designed to suit different travel styles and levels of exploration. Whether you are looking for a classic introduction to western Bhutan, a deeper journey through the beautiful Phobjikha Valley, or an immersive cultural experience in Bumthang, our itineraries are carefully planned to balance sightseeing, comfort and authentic local experiences.
Which Bhutan Tour Should You Choose?
We offer Bhutan tours for different levels of exploration, ranging from the classic western Bhutan circuit to journeys that explore the country's most scenic valleys and cultural regions.
Classic Bhutan Tour covers the iconic destinations of Paro, Thimphu and Punakha, making it ideal for travellers looking for a well-rounded introduction to Bhutan.
Bhutan Group Tour with Phobjikha Valley includes everything from the classic circuit while adding an overnight stay in the beautiful Phobjikha Valley, one of Bhutan's most scenic destinations.
Bhutan Group Tour with Bumthang is our most comprehensive Bhutan itinerary, covering Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, Phobjikha Valley and Bumthang, the cultural and spiritual heartland of Bhutan.
How to Reach Bhutan from India
Travellers can enter Bhutan either by flying directly to Paro International Airport or by travelling overland through the border town of Phuentsholing after arriving at Bagdogra Airport or a nearby railway station.
Flying directly to Paro is the fastest option and is suitable for shorter Bhutan itineraries. However, flights to Paro are usually more expensive and have limited availability compared to flights to Bagdogra.
Many travellers prefer entering Bhutan through Phuentsholing as it offers greater flexibility and often reduces overall travel costs. Most of our Bhutan tours start from Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station.
NJP or Hasimara: Which Railway Station is Better for Bhutan?
Travellers planning to enter Bhutan by road often choose between New Jalpaiguri (NJP) and Hasimara railway stations.
NJP is better connected to major cities across India and offers significantly more train options, making it the preferred choice for most travellers.
Hasimara is located much closer to the Bhutan border and can reduce road travel time. However, it has fewer train connections and services compared to NJP.
If you are travelling by train, NJP is generally the most convenient option, while Hasimara may be suitable for travellers arriving from routes that connect directly to the station.
How Many Days Are Required for a Bhutan Tour?
The ideal duration of a Bhutan trip depends on the destinations you wish to explore.
A 5 to 7 day itinerary is sufficient to cover the classic western Bhutan circuit, including Paro, Thimphu and Punakha.
Travellers who wish to experience the beautiful landscapes of Phobjikha Valley should plan for around 8 days.
For a deeper exploration that includes Bumthang, the cultural and spiritual heartland of Bhutan, we recommend 10 days or more.
Best Time to Visit Bhutan
Bhutan can be visited throughout the year, but spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are generally considered the best seasons.
Spring brings pleasant weather and blooming rhododendrons, while autumn offers clear mountain views and many of Bhutan's famous cultural festivals.
Winter is ideal for travellers looking for fewer crowds and opportunities to visit destinations such as Phobjikha Valley, where the endangered Black-Necked Cranes migrate every year.
The Classic Bhutan Circuit
Most Bhutan itineraries are built around the classic western Bhutan circuit covering Paro, Thimphu and Punakha.
Together, these destinations offer a balanced introduction to Bhutan's monasteries, mountain scenery, traditional architecture and cultural heritage.
Highlights include Tiger's Nest Monastery, Buddha Dordenma, Dochula Pass, Chimi Lhakhang and Punakha Dzong, making this route the most popular choice for visitors to Bhutan.
Beyond the Classic Bhutan Tour
Travellers looking to explore beyond the classic western Bhutan circuit can choose itineraries that include Phobjikha Valley and Bumthang.
Phobjikha Valley is known for its sweeping landscapes, Gangtey Monastery and peaceful atmosphere, while Bumthang is widely regarded as the cultural and spiritual heartland of Bhutan.
These regions offer a deeper understanding of Bhutan's culture, traditions and natural beauty beyond the country's most visited destinations.
Bhutan Group Tours
Our Bhutan group tours are designed for travellers who prefer fixed departures, shared experiences and carefully planned itineraries.
The Bhutan Group Tour with Phobjikha Valley is our most popular group itinerary and includes the classic Bhutan circuit along with an overnight stay in the beautiful Phobjikha Valley.
Travellers seeking a more immersive experience can choose the Bhutan Group Tour with Bumthang, which explores the cultural heartland of Bhutan and includes selected festival departures.
Bhutan Festival Tours
Bhutan is famous for its colourful religious festivals known as Tshechus, where monks and local communities gather for traditional mask dances, cultural performances and religious ceremonies. These festivals offer travellers a unique opportunity to experience Bhutanese culture beyond sightseeing.
Several of our Bhutan departures are timed around important festivals such as the Paro Tshechu, Thimphu Tshechu, Black-Necked Crane Festival, Dochula Druk Wangyel Festival, Ura Yakchoe Festival and Jambay Lhakhang Drup Festival.
Festival departures are ideal for travellers who wish to combine Bhutan's iconic monasteries, mountain scenery and cultural heritage with some of the country's most important annual celebrations.
