The entire town of Lakhpat resides inside a fort that used to be next to River Sindhu. Before 1800s, Lakhpat used to be a major trade centre of rice. However, a devastating earthquake in early 1800s, made the people in the town abandon it and move to other places. The river also changed its coarse eventually!
